Lawford Baxter founded Cut Fruit Express, Inc., in 1988, after completing his PhD in Post-harvest Physiology at the University of Minnesota and working as a harvest engineer in Delaware. What began as a small operation has since grown into a thriving fruit and vegetable processing company. As President, Lawford Baxter leads Cut Fruit Express in selling processed fruit and vegetable products to distributors, who deliver the products to grocery stores and restaurants.

Freshness remains a top priority for the company. Specialists at Cut Fruit Express use post-harvest physiology principles to guide all handling of the produce. Proper packaging plays a fundamental role in retaining the products’ freshness; in fact, Cut Fruit Express believes that this stage of the process is as important as selecting fresh produce from the start. The company offers a range of packaging options to meet any wholesaler or retailer’s needs, such as shrink wrap, vacuum packaging, rigid party and commercial trays, and individual serving containers. All products are packaged for ease of use by the consumer.

As the company’s name implies, cut fruit is one of its primary offerings. A stringent selection process assures that all fruit meets the company’s standards for texture, color, appearance, and flavor. From there, the fruit must meet a sugar content qualification of 10-13 percent. Current offerings include pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, and red and green grapes.
